France, 12.9.18

Dear Cath:

Now don’t you start laughing at this writing my young lady or there’s going to be trouble You can consider yourself mighty lucky, for I’ve left handed stunt doesn’t appeal to me at all and I’ve only written three letters since friend Frtizie bowled me over.  However I hope to improve with practice so you may look for the odd letter now and then.  But it sure is one tedious job.

If that bullet had only gone thru my left wing everything would have been O.K. However nurse says I will likely be on Blighty some time net week so why worry. I wouldn’t kick if both arms were tied up.

My arm is improving quite rapidly but they won’t let me out of bed. Wouldn’t mind if I could get up and walk around a bit. Have been thru two operations and the stitches will be ready to come out in 2 or 3 days – after that hurrah for England. I don’t know how long they will keep me over there of course but have hopes of spending the winter there anyway. I volunteered for the first draft when I came over here but don’t mind saying I don’t intend volunteering any more – am willing to stand aside now in favour of some of the fellows who haven’t had the priviledge of seeing France yet. Next time I’ll come when I have to.

How is everyone at home? Suppose you and Margaret are busy instilling knowledge into the mind of young Canada. I haven’t rec’d any mail for over two weeks but am taking it for granted you got your certificate. How do you like your new school? – first rate I hope. Had any occasion to use the rod yet?

Gee the flies are thick today – won’t give a chap a minute’s peace.  They say that’s a sign of rain but I hope not for its been raining almost steadily for 3 days now. Last night was quite cool but today has been fairly fair. Guess the rain is over. Well now Cath I really must ring off for my hand (fingers rather, for I haven’t got on to the muscular movement yet) is getting rather cramped. Have done magniferously tho don’t you think? – nothing like a little encouragement you know.

Am feeling tip top.

– Leslie
