Dear Cath:
The mail goes out in about half an hour and I want to drop a line to the folks at home so I’ve only time to scratch off a short note this morning. Still I guess it won’t be mush shorter than usual at that. You’ve had all the news by this time anyway. Yes, we’ve been in another mixup with Fritz and as you see I’ve made out O.K. once more. I’m not sure how Lawrence made out but believe he is allright. The last I saw of him he was going ahead with his gun crew + he gave me a cheery-o as he went past. Don’t know where his co’y is situated at present or I would have taken a run over. Hope to have news of Jim + the rest of the boys before long.
Rec’d another interesting letter from Margaret yesterday. She tells me that she + Rose + our two respective maters (mothers) are contemplating a trip up the lakes this month. That will be fine. Hope they have fine weather though for I would hate to hear that they had all been seasick. Margaret mentions that possibility but I have an idea that she was just kidding. Still it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take along a good supply of spearmint – they say it is a good preventative. Mother you know objects to chewing gum but I’ve noticed she generally uses it when on the water. Good excuse, eh?
So, Alma B.C. got her certificate! Yes, I’ll admit it is rather amusing to think of her sitting up behind a teacher’s desk instructing a bunch of kids. I hear Maud made her entrance too. She’ll be tickled to death for she’s always wanted to be one of the “R.C.L. kids”. Beats all the way they are shooting them thru now tho’. I remember when I was attending P.S. nearly every boy in the entrance class was big enough to toss Mr. Pringle through the window single handed.
Well au revoir. Hope you have got a school to suit you. Will write again soon. Kind regards to all.
Les.
P.S. This paper was the property of a German fighting “man” (?) a couple of days ago but I commandeered it as I didn’t bring any of my own over with me. It’s not too bad either n’est-ce pas.
Saw Neil Brown last week.
